208
Duecento Otto
Establishing a hip, trend-setting bar & restaurant in an up-and-coming part of town
The Background
A restaurant, for all its décor, location and menu specialties, is essentially a four-walled building that serves food. The client and Sinclair Communications recognized that 208 was serving up something different, something special. 208 offered stand out ingredients, creating the kind of place that friends look forward to meeting in and enjoying a great meal, whilst making memories.208 Duecento Otto, although located in an out of the way location, sought to create a diversified clientele and establish itself as an en-vogue eatery that people who live nearby enjoy having in their neighborhood, as well as a destination that people will come across town to visit.
The Initiative
We set out to design a comprehensive PR campaign that engaged with media from the full spectrum of lifestyle beats, focusing the conversation and creating interesting story angles.
  • The Location - To introduce 208 Duecento Otto to the regional market we sought to position the restaurant as the epicenter of the up-and-coming cultural district. We engaged journalists on behalf of the brand, and put Sheung Wan on the map as Hong Kong’s hottest district for culture. Sinclair Communications focused media on the authentic, fresh and seasonal ingredients available at 208. The restaurant offers rustic Italian Cuisine – with an Italian in the kitchen, Enzo Carbone. Central to 208’s concept are the Made In Italy Pizzas (created by Hong Kong’s hottest pizza oven and a reputed Napels’ artisan) – we created a trendy pizza bar vibe in the downstairs Bar and an intimate upstairs restaurant. The unique interiors designed by Autoban, were explored by lifestyle and design publications as we focused on gaining accolades for the restaurant. We established 208 Duecento Otto as the Italian restaurant and Bar with a New York vibe’ and ‘rustic cuisine’.
  • A range of events were held at 208 Duecento Otto to introduce the restaurant as a dining venue and a fashionable place to be seen. For example, we hosted fashion blogger events and international design publications, whilst working with high end food guides and celebrity photo shoots for top tier media.
The Outcome
  • We established the location as a “new hip district”, akin to New York’s meatpacking district. We positioned 208 Duecento Otto as a place to be seen, attracting a young professional hipster and artisan crowd.
  • With an appetite for creating communications that not only fulfill the immediate needs of our clients, but that are characterized by their long-shelf life and sustainable relevance.
  • In the first year, articles on 208 appeared in leading international, regional and local publications including:
  • US$31,000,000 of media coverage was achieved.
Semi-Permanent 2011
Marketing and Public Relations for a first-of-its-kind design, inspiration and innovation-focused creative conference

When world-renowned creative conference Semi-Permanent came to Hong Kong for its inaugural Asian event, Sinclair Communications was appointed to strategically manage PR and marketing for the conference and its periphery events. The objective was to engage both the participants and the Hong Kong community at large, while spotlighting speakers’ topics and sponsors of the event.
Strategy
With an eclectic mix of international creatives, Sinclair Communications crafted a communications strategy that focused on creating strong story angles for the media, partnering with strategic sponsors and engaging their communities, and above the board media such as a creative poster campaign. An engaging social media campaign generate online buzz and provide a feedback loop for participants. Raising awareness in the right communities was vital; Sinclair Communications sought to create a “community” of creatives that would be the backbone of the conference and act as the brand ambassadors, therefore authenticating the event. To create a seamless communications strategy, Sinclair Communications worked in creative collaboration with ‘Diamond Partner’ Lane Crawford, event management agency ‘Branded’ and the Australian-based Semi-Permanent team.
Results
Through strategic media relations, the instituted PR and marketing campaign yielded dozens and dozens of press features, including over USD 9 million generated in printed coverage alone.
Gentlemen's Tonic
Creative collaborations and sound messaging lay the foundation of support for the premier gentlemen's grooming establishment in Hong Kong
The Background
Our goal was to establish and brand a luxury British grooming and lifestyle establishment exclusively for men in the Hong Kong market. We sought to position Gentlemen’s Tonic as being synonymous with suave, masculine professionalism. We also took on board the need to educate the Hong Kong market on the international trend towards the male beauty market.
The Initiative
  • We focused all communications with language that was reassuringly masculine, never aligning the brand with the word spa or a feminine synonym.
  • We successfully crafted and implemented media language to positioning the brand as the upscale grooming establishment for men in the market as well as consistently associating the brand with its London counterparts in Mayfair to inspire quality assurance.
  • We first set out to create awareness amongst a narrowly defined target market, tailoring our communication strategy to businessmen and their wives. We placed emphasis on the diverse menu, reassuringly masculine environment and London heritage to position GENTLEMEN’S TONIC as the premier gentlemen’s grooming establishment in Hong Kong.
  • We created Hong Kong packages that attracted a local clientele.
  • We nominated GENTLEMEN’S TONIC for the Asia Spa Awards and other relevant accolades
Hong Kong Cancer Fund – Man of the Mo
  • We created a joint promotion with Hong Kong Cancer Fund which positioned GT as a community player and good corporate citizen in the public eye, which thus prompted goodwill towards the brand
  • Our proactive approach out-maneuvered the competition in terms of the publicity for Man of the MO and Hong Kong Cancer Fund.
  • We established a potentially long-term partnership and alliance on behalf of the client, enabling GENTLEMEN’S TONIC to build on this foundation in future years.
  • We created online media partnerships with Time Out HK and Neonpunch.com for this venture.
  • The campaign went across print, online and viral mediums.
Results
  • Through strategic pitches to a diverse range of media outlets, a comprehensive and cohesive brand profile was created. The instituted PR and marketing campaign yielded dozens and dozens of press features, including over HKD3.8 million worth of print coverage alone.
  • GENTLEMEN’S TONIC won Men’s Spa of the Year at the most prestigious industry awards ceremony in the region, AsiaSpa. The Hong Kong-based establishment was also shortlisted in two other categories: Men’s Product Line of the Year and Men’s Treatment of the Year.
